I get so many emails from people asking me what books they should read about ADHD. Well as with ADHD, no one size fits all.
When it comes to ADHD, there’s an endless sea of myths, misunderstandings, and plain old misinformation out there, as us ADHDers well know. That’s why it’s so important to read about ADHD, whether you’re someone who has it, loves someone who does, or simply wants to better understand the world around you.
For those of us with ADHD, diving into resources can be life-changing. Whether it’s an article, a clip on social media or a book. There’s nothing quite like the moment you come across a description of a symptom or behaviour and think, “Wait… that’s me!”
Reading about ADHD can help us understand why we do the things we do, which is the first step toward self-compassion and growth. It can also connect us to a community of people who just get it. Which is a wonderful and beautiful thing for so many of us who may have spent our lives feeling like square pegs in a world full of round holes.
But let’s not stop there. If you’re a parent, partner, or colleague of someone with ADHD, learning about it can make a world of difference in your relationship. It’s not about excusing behaviour or lowering expectations; it’s about understanding the “why” behind the “what.”
So, where should you start? There are countless books, articles, and online resources out there, but not all are created equal. Look for authors and experts who either have ADHD themselves or have worked extensively in the field. Seek out stories from real life people alongside the clinical studies. And don’t be afraid to explore different formats—from podcasts to videos to paperbacks.
Here is a selection of my favourite books. Big shout out to Alex Partridge and his brand new book ‘Now it all makes sense’. Alex has a lot to say about ADHD and having been on his podcast ADHD Chatter, I know how passionate he is about ADHD and learning and understanding more. He has talked to a host of experts and leaders in the field and he shares all of their insights and more, in the book. You can even find me in the book talking about neurodiversity and families.
If you are looking for a fab book about ADHD for children My Amazing ADHD Brain is the perfect read. It’s full of practical tips and super engaging for both parents and children.
In short: read about ADHD because it matters. So crack open that book, scroll through that article, or press play on that podcast. The ADHD community—and the world—will be better for it.

I read and enjoyed Dirty Laundry by Rox and Rich Pink. Very easy read and quite relatable.
Love seeing ADHD knowledge being spread!
Knowledge is power, and power is control.
